Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse has asked impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to ‘give way to wisdom’ as he battles the process in court.
Speaking on Saturday, October 26, in Tharaka Nithi County, Mutuse claimed that numbers matter in a democracy after the National Assembly and Senate ousted Gachagua.
“Since we finished this work at the National Assembly and went to the Senate, I haven’t attended public gatherings because I did not want to speak about the matter and look like it was a conflict. So if I don’t speak it here, you will have to bear with me.
“But the Europeans say that even strength must give way to wisdom. So when you see that man (Gachagua), tell him he must give way to wisdom because Kenya is a democracy, and in a democracy, numbers matter. 282 MPs against 44 said Kenya must change. In the Senate, 53 senators against 13 said Kenya must change. Surely numbers in a democracy must have meaning,” Mutuse remarked.

The lawmaker was the mover of the motion that led to the impeachment of Gachagua.
His remarks come even as a three-judge bench hearing the impeachment case disallowed an application on their recusal.
On Friday, October 25, Justices Eric Ogola, Freda Mugambi and Anthony Mrima noted that they had considered the application but did not agree with the applicants on their case.
Following the ruling, the three-judge bench will proceed with hearing the impeachment case and other relevant applications.
The bench ruled that the hearing on the conservatory orders stopping the swearing-in of the new deputy president is set for Tuesday, October 29, at 10:00 a.m.
