MP Salasya accused of threatening to kill magistrate for ruling against him

Mumias East MP Salasya reportedly threatened to kill magistrate who ordered him to pay Ksh.500K debt

Mumias East MP Salasya reportedly threatened to kill magistrate who ordered him to pay Ksh.500K debt.

A magistrate at Kakamega Law Courts has accused Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya of issuing her death threats following a ruling she delivered on Monday.

Peter Salasya is reportedly said to have threatened to kill the magistrate who on Monday ordered him to pay a businessman Ksh.500,000 that he owed.

Robert Lutta filed a case on December 13, 2022, challenging the legislator to repay the money he had lent him, with the understanding that he would repay the loan after two months.

Magistrate Gladys Kiama of the Kakamega Small Claims Court ordered Salasya to pay Lutta Ksh. 500,000, plus interest and case costs.

The first-time lawmaker is reported to have accosted Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom after the decision and made death threats against her.

Following the claims, the magistrate rushed to Kakamega Police Station to file a report, fearing for her life.

“At around 1230 hours while at Kakamega Law Courts, having delivered a judgement in a small claim matter vide case no. SSC E541/2023 against Hon. Peter Salasya, MP for Mumias East Constituency where he had been sued for failing to refund the money loaned to him by the claimant. He confronted her outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her and then took off,” reads a report filed at the Kakamega Police Station.

Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since launched investigations into the report to ascertain the validity of the matter.

However, Salasya during the hearing denied borrowing money from the businessman and instead claimed he was the one who loaned Lutta Ksh.1 million through his political advisor Bernard Kemba.

But Magistrate Kiama dismissed Salasya’s argument due to lack of evidence.

“I also note that there was nothing to support the allegations that the claimant borrowed money from the respondent, there was no evidence to support his claim,” she said.
