MP Wamuchomba summoned by DCI hours after 'Ruto Must Go' video

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has been summoned by DCI detectives from Kiambu County.

The lawmaker revealed via a tweet on Saturday morning, April 5, that the Kiambu County Criminal Investigation Officer had phoned her to show up at their headquarters for questioning.

Whilst she did not share the main reason behind the summon, the lawmaker linked it to the recent chants in her constituency ahead of President William Ruto’s working visit.

“The CCIO Kiambu has, through a telephone, called and summoned me because the great people of Githunguri refused to be lured by fake promises and projects that never materialised. Arrests you can do, but that will not change the facts ! No more lies! You promised delivery!” she tweeted.

This comes hours after a viral video showed her marching with a crowd chanting “Ruto Must Go” in Githunguri on the evening of Friday, April 4.

The incident occurred just as President William Ruto was scheduled to visit Githunguri in Kiambu for his Mt. Kenya development tour on April 5.

While the motive for the summons was not officially revealed, the directive for her to appear before the DCI is seemingly tied to her alleged role in mobilizing the crowd.

Going by Wamuchomba’s tweet, the summon was premised on her recent rally in which she alerted her constituents on the president’s visit, asking them not to tolerate empty rhetoric and lies from the president.

The president’s tour of Mt Kenya has been marred with instances of heckling and intolerance from an angered public.

In some instances, the president looked on as leaders in his entourage faced the wrath of the region’s residents irked by the leaders’ underperformance.

On Friday, April 4, the Ruto was forced to intervene after Tharaka Nithi Women Representative Susan Ngugi was heckled while making her speech in Chuka Town at the invitation of the president.

However, when she started speaking, a section of the crowd began to heckle her, forcing her to cut her speech short. Others were also filmed waxing their hands in detest.

Afterwards, Ruto called on the residents to go easy on the MP.

“Surely, you people, this is a lady. Don’t make too much noise for her,” he pleaded.
