MPs to spend millions of taxpayers’ money on charter planes, wines & spirits as the parliament invites bidders.

On Wednesday, April 19, Parliament issued a call for bids for specific services, such as charter plane and helicopter services, for the fiscal years 2023–2024 and 2024–2025.

In a tender notice, members of parliament are also set to enjoy the supply of wines and spirits, cigarettes, and tobacco.

The tender notice said that the products would be supplied as needed throughout the fiscal year to all qualified bidders.

Additionally, it required the provision and transportation of sporting apparel, including uniforms, shoes, clothes, and accessories.

“The National Assembly invites applications from interested and eligible bidders for the registration of suppliers for use on an ‘as and when required basis’ in the financial Year 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 in the following listed categories,” the tender notice read in part.

Further, the notice called for vehicle transport, car hire, and taxi services in various cities, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, and other towns.

“Provision of vehicle transport, Car Hire, and Taxi Services. Please state your geographical locations preferably Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Nyeri, Kakamega, Lamu, Lodwar, Malindi,” the notice added.

Other services required by the MPs include technical professional services in graphic designs and illustrations covering key publications, books, magazines, and programmes.

In addition, interested persons were called on to bid for the provision of Gifts, including assorted branded services and provision of three-star and above hotel accommodation services in major towns.

How to bid

Issuing a deadline of May 3, the notice instructed interested bidders to download the registration document from the commission website at www.parliament.go.ke or from the Public Procurement Information portal at www.tenders.go.ke.

The tender notice came on the backdrop of reports indicating that civil servants were yet to receive their March 2023, salaries and a rising cash crisis in the country.

 Six ministries were yet to receive remuneration of employees by Wednesday, April 19.
