Mt Kenya elders call out Kung’u Muigai, Uhuru’s cousin for supporting DP Ruto saying they’re solidly behind Raila Odinga

Mt Kenya elders call out Kung’u Muigai President Uhuru’s cousin Kung’u Muigai for supporting DP Ruto saying they’re solidly behind Raila Odinga.

Captain Kung’u Muigai has in the past publicly declared his support for Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid against the wish of president Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, Kikuyu Council of Elders Chairman Wachira Wa Kiago has blasted Kung’u Muigai accusing him of masquerading as the spokesperson of the community.

In a report by Daily Nation, Kiago and Kiama Kiama chairman Patrick Gaithuma warned DP Ruto against falling into lies by a ‘young man who lacks powers to represent the community.

Kiago and Kiama Kiama chairman Patrick Gaithuma noted that the Kikuyu community is solidly behind the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

“We have sat down as a council and we have given direction to the community. We know where our community is safe. Our community will be served well in an Azimio government. We know what we are doing and we cannot mislead our people.” Kiago said.

The Mt Kenya elders claimed that recent statements made by Uhuru’s cousin are just his personal views and shouldn’t be taken to represent the position of the Mt. Kenya region.

They called him a disgrace to the Kikuyu community for openly disagreeing with President Uhuru Kenyatta about the politics surrounding the 2022 succession.

The Elders, who asserted that they were the legitimate representatives of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, branded Muigai as an imposter attempting to stoke tensions in the community.

“The Kikuyu council of elders is an organization that is fully registered by the government. We have a registration certificate. We are the true owners of the title, but Captain Muigai is not in our records. He is not even a member of the council. What he is doing is personal and has nothing to do with us,” Kiago said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin had insisted that the 2013 agreement between the head of state and Ruto must be honoured.

Muigai said the agreement was to the Mt Kenya community, and if not fulfilled, the Kikuyu community will lose trust, and nobody will ever trust them in the future.

“Kikuyu elders decided ‘yangu Kumi, yako Kumi’ is a valid promise which must be fulfilled and has decided to endorse William Ruto’s presidential bid and they are going to show that by action as election approaches,” he added.
