Eleven people feared dead after a road accident involving a Super Metro Bus and a lorry on the Kisumu- Nairobi Highway.
Eleven people died have been confirmed dead following an accident involving a bus and a lorry at Othoo area in Nyando sub-county along the Kisumu – Nairobi Highway.
In addition, several others were left with serious injuries following the early morning accident.
The dead include two women, 8 men, and a teenage boy. A total of 53 passengers have suffered injuries as a result of the accident according to Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi.
Mwangi says the bus, which was heading towards Nairobi, was trying to overtake when it collided head-on with an oncoming lorry killing the 11 instantly.
According to a report filed by the Kenya Red Cross, the accident happened at 2:30am on Monday, January 29 at Ahero Junction, Kisumu County.

“Multiple injured individuals have been taken to Ahero Sub-county Hospital while critical cases are now being directed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital,” Kenya Red Cross stated.
“Kenya Red Cross is actively involved in providing Psychosocial Support and managing a Tracing Desk,” it added.
The bus was plying the Kampala- Nairobi route when it was involved in that accident. From the photos of the crash, both the lorry and the bus were badly damaged.
The wreckage of the bus and lorry was also towed to the nearest police station and traffic was allowed to resume normally.
