Nairobi International Schools ranked the most expensive in Africa; charging up to Ksh 3.8 million.

According to data from the International Schools Database (2022), Nairobi City is home to Africa’s most expensive international schools.

Further info from the study published on January 17, 2023, showed that Nairobi has the greatest concentration of international schools on the continent.

Among the studied international cities, Cape Town was the least expensive city in Africa for attending an international school.

“For the second year in a row, Nairobi emerged as the most expensive city when it comes to international schools.

“The spread of international schools in Nairobi is also the highest in Africa,” the International School Database report read in part.

Local and ex-pat parents seeking to enroll their children in international schools in Kenya have to pay up to Ksh3.8 million in school fees.

“While Nairobi international schools are the most expensive in the continent, they offer options for every parent.

“This is because there are some international schools charging as low as Ksh116,000 while the most expensive one charges Ksh3.8 million,” the research revealed.

With an average annual tuition of Ksh907,000 charged by foreign schools, Kenya was rated 57th globally out of 76 examined cities.

With average annual school tuition of Ksh500,000, Cape Town was the least costly city not only in Africa but also worldwide in 2021.

It climbed up one spot globally but remained the cheapest city in Africa for international schooling in 2022.

Unlike other cities in Africa, Cape Town had the lowest range in terms of school fees paid. 

The cheapest international school charged Ksh273,000 while the most expensive charged Ksh699,000.

Addis Ababa and Johannesburg were ranked second and third respectively on the list of expensive cities.

Kampala, which had been ranked third in 2021, dropped one position to appear fourth with an average of Ksh653,000 in school fees.
