Nairobi Water lists Nairobi estates set to experience water shortage

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced that several estates in Nairobi County are set to experience water supply interruptions due to technical challenges.

In a notice on Sunday, August 17, NCWSC said the technical hitches occurred along the Kabete–Kibera–Lang’ata water supply pipeline.

“Dear Valued Customers, due to technical challenges along the Kabete – Kibera – Lang’ata water supply pipeline, water distribution is currently affected in the following areas,” read part of the notice.

The affected areas include: Lang’ata, Kibera, Kilimani, Lavington, Westlands, Parklands, Riverside, Kileleshwa, University of Nairobi (UoN) main campus residents, and Chiromo campus.

Estates along Ngong Road, Langata Road, and Raila Odinga Road, including Madaraka, Nyayo Highrise, Nairobi West, and Dam, will also experience the water supply interruption.

The water shortage will also affect the Nairobi hospital and the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Nairobi Water noted that it has deployed its technical staff to resolve the issue, urging residents of the affected estates to use water sparingly.

Further, NCWSC announced it has dispatched its water tankers to the affected estates for residents to get water.

“We advise our customers to use their stored water sparingly. In the meantime, we have dispatched our water tankers to the affected estates for residents to draw water free of charge. We humbly request patience as we work to resolve the water supply failure,” NCWSC added.

This comes months after a butterfly pump at the Kabete Water Treatment Works was damaged and affected the water supply in parts of Nairobi and its environs.

In a statement, Nairobi Water explained that it was forced to repair 6 pump motors and their electrical control panels to restore the water supply.

“Water supply Interruption is expected to affect certain City Estates due to ongoing repair works on 6 pump motors and their electrical control panels at Kabete pumping station. The pumps, at Kabete, assist in increasing water pressure and move the flow towards Dagoretti and Uthiru reservoirs,” NCWSC stated.

The water supply disruption affected estates along Naivasha Road, Kawangware, Gatina, Kabiro, Riruta Satellite, Dagoretti Corner, and the whole of Ngando.
