Natembeya forced to flee for safety after chaos at MP Malulu Injendi's home
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya found himself in unfamiliar territory on Sunday evening after being forced to flee the home of the late Malava Member of Parliament Malulu Injendi.
This prompted the Governor to take action after it became clear that the youth were targeting him due to his firm stance against President William Ruto’s government.
Security officers assigned to the Governor had to step in and escort Natembeya to safety as the crowd grew increasingly hostile.
Videos and images showed officers standing guard as the Governor’s convoy maneuvered through the gates of the late MP’s residence while the youth continued shouting at him.
Speaking following the incident, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa condemned the incident urging for calm during the event.
According to Barasa, it was only befitting for the youth to respect other leaders, as Malulu himself was a peace-loving leader.
”The late Malulu Injendi was a peace-loving leader, from today till the day he will be rested, we want his send-off to be respectful. We do not want any form of violence and we want to plead with all the residents of Kakamega to demonstrate tolerance,” Barasa urged.
However, following the incident, Natembeya took to his social media to dismiss claims that he was chased away from the event.
“No one can chase me out of my own turf. Stop this desperate propaganda,” he asserted.

Additionally, a source close to Natembeya said that the governor was not forced out but had stepped away from the MP’s home to distribute handouts to the youth.
The source clarified that this was done out of respect for the grieving family, and it was during this moment that the commotion erupted.
This was not the first time Natembeya found himself in such a situation. On January 3, during the burial of Mama Anne Nanyama, the mother to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, the Governor found himself on the receiving end after he accused the government of doing so little to help the people of Western Kenya and address some social ills among them abductions.
While attacking Natembeya, who was also present during the burial and condemned the abductions, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah blamed Natembeya for not using the powers he had during his tenure as the Police Regional Commander to expose those behind the abductions.
“Gachagua was the orchestrator of abductions so that he could blame President Ruto. Shame on you Governor Natembeya. You cannot complain about abductions when you were the key abductor of Kenyans under the last regime,” Ichung’wah stated.
The late Injendi will be laid to rest on Tuesday, March 4, at his home in a ceremony that is expected to be attended by various leaders across the political divide. However, it remains to be seen whether Natembeya will attend the event.
