The National Assembly has announced that it will hold sittings on Friday, October 18 after Gachagua impeachment trial in the Senate.
In a statement on Wednesday, October 16, the August House disclosed that it resolved to alter its calendar so as to hold sessions on Friday to consider priority business.
According to the order paper, the National Assembly will commence its short recess on Tuesday, October 22.
“That, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Orders 28(4) (Calendar of the House) and 30(3)(c) (Hours of Meeting), this House resolves to commence the short recess on Tuesday, 22nd October 2024 and hold Sittings on Friday, 18th October 2024, commencing at 9.30 a.m. for the morning sitting and 2.30 p.m. for the afternoon sitting,” read the order paper.
The motion to alter the calendar was moved by National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro and seconded by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe.

Osoro stated that the House would consider priority bills, including mediated bills, during the sittings on Friday.
“The rationale for this sitting is for the House to consider priority business, including bills in mediation, specifically the Sugar Bill (2022), Water Bill (2023), Divisions of Revenue (Amendment) Bill (2024), National Rating Bill (2023) and a number of Private Members Bills which are at risk of lapsing,” Osoro remarked.
Notably, the sessions will take place after the conclusion of hearings on the charges against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Senate following his impeachment.
Gachagua is set to appear before the Senate plenary on Wednesday, October 16 (today), and Thursday, October 17, to defend himself before the Senate delivers its verdict later on Thursday.
