The National Police Service (NPS) has accepted the resignation of Mugithi singer Samuel Muchoki, alias Samidoh, from the service.

In his resignation letter to the NPS, the popular musician cited personal reasons and his desire to fully focus on his music career.

The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, accepted Samidoh’s resignation, noting that he is now free to pursue whatever path he wishes.

The resignation took effect on July 20, 2025, marking the end of Samidoh’s 12-year career in the service as a police constable.

Samidoh’s resignation from the service comes months after the NPS ordered his arrest for deserting duty.

NPS noted that Samidoh has been declared a deserter of the police service, and as such, his salary had been halted with immediate effect.

However, a travel clearance letter from the Office of the Inspector General later indicated that Samidoh had been granted official permission to travel to the United States for a private visit.

On July 25, the high court granted Samidoh a Ksh200,000 anticipatory bail, shielding him from arrest by police authorities.

As part of the court’s conditions for the bail, Samidoh has been ordered to deposit his passport with the court.

The musician’s troubles with his seniors began after a video of him in a live performance went viral on social media, in which revelers were chanting ‘wantam’, a phrase used by opposition leaders in campaigning against the re-election of President William Ruto.

Samidoh was then transferred to the AP Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
