National Police Service (NPS) responds after Madaraka court shooting
National Police Service (NPS) vows swift action after the Madaraka court shooting, reiterating its commitment to protect life and property.
The National Police Service has expressed deep regret over the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred on June 13, 2024, at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi.
“Today, at about 1345 hrs, a Presiding Magistrate for Makadara Law Courts (name withheld) was shot by a suspect later identified as No. 235435 Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, the OCS Londiani Police Station,” IG said.
Inspector General Japhet Koome said that the preliminary investigations suggest that Chief Inspector Kipruto was present at the court for reasons yet to be determined during a session concerning a case involving Jennifer Wairimu, accused of obtaining Sh2.9 million by pretense.
“Swift response from Police Court Orderlies managed to neutralize the situation, resulting in the unfortunate demise of the officer,” Koome said.
However, two police constables and the magistrate sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu.

The National Police Service (NPS) has deployed specialized teams, led by the DCI Homicide Unit, to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.
” While the Service is yet to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting, all our specialized teams led by the DCI Homicide Unit are on the ground conducting an in-depth investigation into the incident,” Koome said.
Koome has taken the opportunity to reassure the Judiciary of the safety of its staff as they carry out their duties diligently.
“The National Police Service further reiterates its commitment to protect life and property of all Kenyans and foreign visitors alike,” Koome said.
