Police (Lang’ata OCPD, DCIO) visit Matiang’i’s Karen home as investigations over the alleged raid commence.

On Thursday, February 9, the National Police Service (NPS) opened an inquiry into the alleged home invasion of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi.

In what the Azimio La Umoja Coalition referred to as a “witch hunt” against the former Cabinet Secretary, the police allegedly started recording statements and evaluating the material under the direction of Langata Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Monica Kimani and DCIO.

The officers were trying to identify those who participated in the attack as they seek to establish more about the individuals who raided Matiang’i’s Karen home.

The Criminal Investigations Department (DCI) investigators were attempting to gather evidence, some of which included Close Circuit Television (CCTV) video clips that would be examined by professionals.

The shred of evidence would be transported from the Karen to the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters where Cyber Crime specialists will provide an investigatory report on the same.

The Criminal Investigations Department (DCI) detectives were simultaneously trying to get statements from every witness who had been at Dr. Matiangi’s house that fateful night.

The investigation came just hours after Police boss Japhet Koome refuted reports claiming that cops were sent to arrest Matiang’i on Wednesday night, February 8.

“I wish to clarify that no police officer under the NPS was sent to former CS Matiang’i residence at all,” the police chief explained.

Initial reports indicated that Matiangi’s home was raided by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), who were supposedly investigating a matter.

However, EACC chief executive Twalib Mbarak distanced himself from the raid, noting that his team had nothing to do with the reported raid.
