National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned musician Millicent Jerotich Kipkorir alias Marakwet Daughter over alleged inflammatory lyrics in her song "Arap Ruto."
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned musician Millicent Jerotich Kipkorir alias Marakwet Daughter over alleged inflammatory lyrics in her song “Arap Ruto.”
In a letter addressed to Jerotich, the Commission said it’s investigating whether the song contains words likely to incite ethnic contempt, hatre,d and hostility.
“Pursuant to the above-mentioned mandate, the Commission is investigating the words used in your hit song to wit; “Arap Ruto”
“Words which are likely to incite feelings of ethnic contempt, hatred, hostility and affect harmonious coexistence between different ethnic communities in Kenya, contrary to Section 13(1)(a) and Section 62 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act,” the letter read.
According to the letter, Jerotich was ordered to appear at the NCIC offices at Britam Towers, Upper Hill, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM.

NCIC also warned that failure to appear before the commission is an offence as stipulated in the NCIC act.
“Whereas that failure to appear in person at the aforementioned place, date, and time, is an offence as provided under Section 63(c) as read with Section 63(e) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act,” the letter concluded.
In reaction to the letter, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, a close ally of Ruto, has criticised NCIC for summoning the musician.
In an update on Wednesday, February 5, Sudi said NCIC should instead deal with people inciting Kenyans, noting that he has a list of 50 people worth investigating.
“NCIC, leave Marakwet Daughter alone. I’ve got a list of about 50 names that would be a much better use of your time instead of this nonsense,” he wrote on X.
