Newly Appointed Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi declares Luo community will never be outside the government.
Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has declared the political truce between President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, a historic moment and a turning point in Luo Nyanza politics.
Speaking in Ugunja on Friday during his welcoming party as his constituents joined him in celebrating his appointment to the cabinet, Wandayi proclaimed that for far too long, the Luo Nyanza region has failed to secure representation in government and going forward, he said, the region will not be left out in the cold ever again.
“We want to thank President William Ruto for taking the necessary steps to unite Kenyans assisted by our leader Raila Amollo Odinga. We cant forget this historic moment that has occured between President Ruto and Raila.
“For us this is the turning point. We are saying in one accord as members of this community that never again shall we find ourselves outside government,” he added.
While delivering his remarks, Wandayi seized the opportunity to assure Kenyans that the newly formed broad-based government featuring both President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s allies priority is to deliver development equitably to all regions in Kenya.
“We want to say that as we start this journey, we are going to ensure that whatever development agenda that we have as a government is an agenda that we will extend to every corner of this country without exception,” he stated.
Speaking to journalists at the homecoming ceremony, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch hailed the broad-based government, pointing out President William Ruto’s move will go a long way in helping the country cement its national unity.
“This is a very big inspiration for the people of Ugunja. They have blessed their son to work for the people of Kenya. This is the equal opportunity idea that I have been talking about. The idea that everyone can serve in government, not only the people of their community but all the people of Kenya,” the senator stated.

Wandayi is one of the four senior ODM party officials who President William Ruto tapped to join his government following a wave of youth-led protests.
The Ugunja MP and the outgoing National Assembly Minority Leader is one of Raila’s closest allies who stood by his side despite the former premier’s loss in the 2022 presidential election.
Despite the formation of the broad-based government which was intended to cool political temperatures in the country, Raila has continued to face criticism for joining faces with President William Ruto.
So much has been the criticism, that Odinga was earlier this week forced to reveal that former President Uhuru Kenyatta asked him to reach out to President William Ruto to find ways to cool political temperatures at the height of the Gen Z protests.
However, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Uhuru’s close ally came out a day later to blast Raila over what he described as Raila misleading the public. Kioni refuted the position and reiterated that it was not a true reflection of events.
