High Court reopens a murder case of sisters accused of killing their father, a British tycoon in order to inherit his wealth

High Court reopens a murder case of sisters accused of killing their father, a British tycoon in order to inherit his wealth.

The case of the late British tycoon Harry Veevers has taken a new turn after the Mombasa High Court ordered that the case should be reopened.

According to a report by the Daily Mail in the UK on Sunday, the court announced that the case shall be reopened to allow lawyers to file written submissions including from the deceased’s sons.

The case had been dismissed in January this year after the court ruled that the death was not suspicious.

Two daughters from the billionaire’s first marriage had been accused of poisoning their father to death.

Per the High Court judge, the January verdict was irregular as the court did not allow written submissions.

“This court finds that the irregularity needs to be corrected by reopening the inquest file, allowing submission to be filed and a ruling written and delivered based on the evidence rendered by witnesses in the inquest and submissions filed,” the court ruled.

Reports indicated that the two allegedly committed the heinous act to inherit their father’s Ksh1.1 billion (£7 million) fortune.

However, the duo denied the allegations and after winning the case in January, the siblings added that no evidence had been provided to implicate them in the case.

Earlier, the billionaire’s death was listed as a heart attack but an autopsy done later on revealed traces of poison.

This led to alleged suspicions that the two daughters had plotted the murder with the help of the mother.

Meanwhile, after the recent developments, one of Veever’s sons from the first marriage who spoke to the Daily Mail on Sunday revealed that the reopening of the case was necessary to ensure justice is served.

“Crimes have been committed that need to be answered for,” he stated.

The family still remains in limbo as the billionaire did not leave behind a will detailing how he wanted his wealth distributed to his children and wives.

Veever is said to have left behind three houses in Mombasa and over Ksh100 million in his bank account in the UK.
