No Luhya will cry if Ruto sacks Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi; Natembeya

Governor George Natembeya claims Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi has experienced a decline in popularity

Governor George Natembeya claims Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi has experienced a decline in popularity.

Speaking on Wednesday in an interview at Spice FM, The Trans Nzoia governor termed Mudavadi’s influence in Western Kenya as nominal, terming his position as ‘tokenism’.

He said Mudavadi has experienced a decline in popularity in his home region and if William Ruto decides to fire him today, no Luhya will cry.

Natembeya said that Raila Odinga still holds sway over the community in comparison to Mudavadi and other former influential figures.

He asserted that President William Ruto would still have to go through Raila to convince the Mulembe community on certain political matters.

Gov Natembeya highlighted that key leaders from the Western region were elected under the ODM banner, indicating Odinga’s enduring influence.

In addition, the governor suggested that if the president was to remove Mudavadi from his position, it wouldn’t greatly affect the people, as Mudavadi’s support base had diminished.

He also noted that Musalia Mudavadi wouldn’t have many Members of Parliament to carry with him from the Kenya Kwanza government, as most are aligned with the Azimio coalition.

“Today he is there alone. The position Mudavadi holds in government is what we call tokenism. He can be fired today and no Luhya will cry. Today if the president wants to talk to Luhyas he will go through Raila because the latter’s ODM party is dominant in the region.

“In the previous elections, ODM used to get more votes for Raila in Bungoma but in 2022 2,000 people supported the president and that is what Moses Wetang’ula used to secure his seat.

But I assure you that does not carry the entire community,” he stated.

Natembeya stated that leaders unite based on their shared selfish interests rather than the transformational agenda that their electorates anticipate.

He also expressed his commitment to individually fight for the unity of the Luyha community.
