National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced the death of nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Hamisi.
In an official communique on Saturday, December 6, Wetang’ula notified the National Assembly and the country at large of the demise of Denar Joseph Hamisi.
The lawmaker died in the morning after a bout of an unknown illness.
“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, 6th December 2025 at about 7:00 am,” the speaker’s communique read partly.
The deceased MP was a native of Mombasa County.
He was sponsored to the National Assembly by the now-defunct Amani National Congress (ANC) party, then under the leadership of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
The speaker eulogised Hamisi as a committed and diligent lawmaker who prioritised his duties in the August house and the needs of the common citizenry.
“He served the National Assembly with diligence and commitment as a member of the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities,” the speaker said.
Wetang’ula commiserated with the bereaved family.

He conveyed the consolation message of Parliament to the family and friends, sharing in their loss.
“He will be fondly remembered for humility, and steadfast commitment to service to the nation. His passing is a great loss not only to the House but also to the nation at large. On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey the heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Denar, and to all those who experienced his humility and steadfastness to service to the nation and the community,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly will steer a committee in conjunction with the family to prepare for the lawmaker’s send-off.
The team from parliament will be stewarded by Owen Baya, Kilifi North MP and Deputy Leader of the Majority Party in the National Assembly.
Mudavadi also shared in the grief of the MP’s family.
He eulogised the deceased as an astute leader who stood by his principles even in challenging situations.
