NPS clarifies recruitment of 5,000 police constables
The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a warning debunking a circulated document purporting to announce a new round of police constable recruitment.
The viral job poster inviting Kenyans to apply for 5,000 positions as police constables is fake, the National Police Service (NPS), headed by the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has warned.
Taking to its official X page, the NPS flagged the post, which was inviting Kenyans for recruitment in 50 different regions across the country, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Garissa, Taita Taveta, Wajir and Mandera Counties.
”Purported recruitment into the National Police Service,” the NPS warned in the post that had been flagged as fake.
According to the fake post, Kenyan citizens with valid identification cards were asked to provide their official documents and apply for the job.
”Pursuant to Article 240(3) and (4) as read with Articles 10; 27(8) and 232 of the Constitution of Kenya; Sections 10, 11 and 12 of the National Police Service Commission Act and section 7 (3) of the National Police Service Commission (Recruitment and Appointment) Regulations 2015, I the IG in exercise of powers delegated to me by the NPS Commission, seek to recruit 5,000 suitably qualified applicants to be trained as Police Constables,” read part of the post flagged as fake by the NPS.
The post flagged as fake had warned applicants against presenting altered documents, revealing that they would be fined Ksh200,000 or imprisoned.

”Under section 25 of the NPS Commission Act, any person who willfully gives to the Commission any information which is false or misleading in any material particular commits an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding Ksh200,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both,” the fake post continued.
For the proposed recruitment process, interested candidates were to present themselves at the recruitment centres with the duly completed application forms on the day of the recruitment exercise.
Many times, Kenyans have fallen victim to such fake police recruitments, with cases of applicants losing thousands of shillings to fraudsters.
The warning comes at a time when the government plans to recruit 10,000 police officers, making it easy for Kenyans to fall into the trap.
The government plans to recruit 10,000 new police officers in the 2025-2026 financial year to strengthen security across the country.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that the recruitment process will begin in the next few months.
