CS Kindiki limits access to Nyayo House with a new directive as the government crackdown passport brokers

CS Kindiki limits access to Nyayo House with a new directive as the government crackdown passport brokers.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Thursday ordered that only staff and Kenyans seeking services should be allowed in the premises of Nyayo House as the State responds to the cries of passport applicants.

Kindiki made the announcement after making an impromptu visit to the State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services.

“No person will be allowed to hang around Nyayo House, and being a facility processing vital security documents, access will only be granted to applicants with the necessary documents and staff members,” he said.

Boda boda riders have also been banned from operating around the area, a move the ministry expects will weed off corrupt individuals taking advantage of Kenyans seeking passports.

Kindiki urged applicants to be cautious when seeking services to avoid being duped.

He said that no applicant should give any money to facilitate faster processing and issuance of passports.

The CS also noted that the clean-up of operations at the facility is underway, as detectives close in on more people accused of bribery and frustrating the process.

According to the CS, detectives had identified a list of suspects some of whom had for years operated at Nyayo House with impunity.

Kindiki said the backlog of 44,000 applications will be resolved within 14 days and all subsequent applications be processed expeditiously.

“To facilitate an orderly, timeous, and responsive processing of passports and other citizenship documents, special desks have been established to fast track all emergency applications, including those of persons seeking medical care, academic opportunities and job openings that have clear deadlines and have presented the necessary supporting documents,” he said.

The CS added that he will not allow corruption to go on at Nyayo House citing that he he will crack down on anyone despite their ranks.

He said the Immigration Department will receive up to Sh1.3 billion in appropriation aid beginning the financial year 2023/2024.

The money will enable the acquisition of new equipment, including printers, and revamp the department’s infrastructure to offer better services to citizens across the country.
