NYS announces nationwide mass recruitment programme for servicemen and women.

The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a recruitment programme for servicemen and women across the country.

In an advert in local dailies on Tuesday, the service announced that it is seeking to hire both male and female volunteers to join the NYS programme.

The exercise kicked off on April 15, and end on May 19, 2023.

“The Kenya National Youth Service wishes to announce to the general public that there will be a recruitment exercise of NYS Volunteers (male and female) throughout the Republic from April 15, and end on May 19, 2023, as per the below requirements and dates schedule,” read part of the notice. 

Orphans who meet the qualification requirements will be given special preference subject to the production of sufficient documentary proof such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.

Persons living with disability are also encouraged to avail themselves for the recruitment exercise in their respective sub counties and centres, provided they can undergo rigorous paramilitary training.

NYS recruitment requirements

All interested applicants should be aged between 18 and 24 years and must possess a valid Kenyan Identification Card.

The candidates must also be Kenyan citizens and residents of the respective sub-county under which they apply for.

The service also demands that the applicants must hold a minimum KCSE grade of D (plain) and with relevant certificates such as Certificate of Good Conduct, and Academic Certificates.

The applicants must be ready to undergo a medical check-up during and after the recruitment exercise. 

Aside from undergoing rigorous physical training, they must be prepared to give voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya.

The successful candidates will be required to report for the NYS paramilitary training course at NYS College, Gilgil and NYSTTI Naivasha on dates and times specified in their respective calling letters to be issued.
