Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has dismissed widespread rumors regarding the health of ODM leader Raila Odinga

Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has dismissed widespread rumors regarding the health of ODM leader Raila Odinga, assuring Kenyans that the former Prime Minister is in good condition and recovering abroad.

Speaking on Thursday, October 9, Oburu clarified that Raila is currently in India, where he is resting and recuperating following a brief period of illness.

He urged Kenyans to disregard speculative reports circulating on social media and some sections of the press about Raila’s health.

“There have been a lot of rumors about Raila Odinga that he is very sick and almost dying. I want to tell you that Raila is out and about and just like any other human being was disposed a little and he is recuperating and resting but he was not in those conditions which have been reported in the press.

“He is in India and he will be back soon. Our people should not be worried about that,” he said.

This comes a day after Ida Odinga dismissed rumours about Raila’s health, assuring the public that the ODM leader is in good condition and only taking a short break.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 7, Ida expressed concern over the growing misinformation about Raila’s wellbeing, urging Kenyans to avoid spreading falsehoods.

“Some people claimed that Baba is sick. If he were as bad as they claimed, I would have just brought him to this hospital in Migori. Baba has sent his greetings; he is well and has just taken a short break.

“I ask you, how would someone who doesn’t live with him know, yet I, who live with him, don’t know? The truth is, Baba is okay,” she said.

Earlier Tuesday, Raila himself reassured Kenyans that he is in good health amid widespread online speculation about his condition.

In an update on Tuesday, October 7, the ODM’s Communications Director, Philip Etale, said he had personally spoken to Raila, who was in high spirits.

“I have spoken with Raila Odinga just under five minutes ago. He is jovial and happy. He has sent me to convey his greetings to all of you and says he will be back in a few days,” Etale stated.

In a message shared by the former Prime Minister, Odinga said, “I am seeing people spreading so much propaganda online, let’s keep praying for them.”

These series of clarifications come after a weekend of heightened speculation on social media over Raila’s whereabouts and well-being.
