ODM lawmaker differs with Raila on the One-Man-One-Shilling campaign

Narok senator Ledama Ole Kina disagrees with his ODM party leader, Raila Odinga on sharing national revenue using the one-man-one-shilling formula

Narok senator Ledama Ole Kina disagrees with his ODM party leader, Raila Odinga on sharing national revenue using the one-man-one-shilling formula.

In a statement, Ledama said the formula would discriminate against 24 counties, and he would not vote for it because it would deny other counties money.

“I disagree with a one man, one vote, one shilling; in 24 counties, the majority have been discriminated against for way too long! I will never vote to deny any county money!” he stated.

According to Ole Kina, equity and even development across the country could be achieved by allocating money according to land size rather than population.

“The only way to have equity in Kenya and for development to be spread across the nation is for money to be divided based on land size! Not population,” Ledama stated.

In support of Ledama, politician Alinur Mohamed said the one-man-one shilling revenue-sharing formula being pushed by Mt. Kenya leaders was for political reasons.

“Mt. Kenya leaders are pushing a one-man-one-vote-one-shilling formula because their region is a beneficiary of the fake population which are cooked for political reasons. We need new data on the population in Kenya. In regions like Northern Kenya, numbers are reduced,” he said.

This comes after Raila said he supports the one-man-one-vote-one shilling.

Speaking after receiving the report from Limuru’s three members, Raila said the formula is not discriminative, and has been misinterpreted, which could change through an open dialogue with Kenyans to understand why the country should use the formula fully.
