ODM MPs call on the government to probe the death of a NIS officer terming the suicide narrative as a cover-up.

A section of Members of Parliament from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party have called upon the government to thoroughly investigate the death of Assistant Director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Tom Adala, who was laid to rest on June 15, in Muhoroni.

The lawmakers; Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo, and Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga told the government to go beyond the suicide report saying they believe he did not take his own life.

Atandi, who is a cousin to the deceased claimed that the suicide narrative was being pushed to conceal the main cause of his death.

The MP has laid a question before the National Assembly floor seeking a statement from the assembly committee on administration and internal security to provide answers on the death of Adala.

Oron, on his part, claimed the NIS officer did not die by suicide and that the mental health issue being propagated is a cover-up.

Ruth Odinga too said the death raises suspicions that need to be addressed fully adding that the officer had just been promoted at the workplace.

Adala is said to have killed himself on June 4, 2024. A report by police filed at Kilimani Police Station states that the 54-year-old left a suicide note.

According to a police report, the deceased, who was reported to have been battling depression shot himself from the right side of the head using his Glock pistol with the bullet exiting through the left side.
