In a statement on Thursday, August 21, the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) said the elections will not go on as earlier scheduled and urged members to await further communication.

“Pursuant to the Notice dated 18 August 2025, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) wishes to notify all Party members and stakeholders of the following correction, the County delegates elections for Busia County, which had been scheduled for Monday, 25 August 2025, stand postponed until further notice,” the statement read.

ODM further assured its members that the new dates will be communicated in due time and called for patience among those affected.

“Fresh dates shall be duly communicated in due course. Members in the affected electoral area are advised to remain patient and await the official communication on the rescheduled timelines,” the statement added.

Elsewhere, ODM recently issued a notice to its members in several constituencies and wards ahead of the upcoming by-elections.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 19, the party announced that the verification exercise is ongoing in specific electoral areas as communicated by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“Following communication by IEBC in regards to the upcoming by-elections, the Party wishes to inform its members in the following electoral areas: Baringo County, Banissa Constituency, Kasipul Constituency, Magarini Constituency, Malava Constituency, Mbeere North Constituency, and Ugunja Constituency,” the statement read in part.

The verification also extends to various wards, including Angata Nanyokie, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny, Chewani, Fafi, Kariobangi North, Kisa East, Metkei, Mumbuni North, Kabuchai/Chwele, Narok Town, Purko, Tembelio, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekereriyo, Lake Zone, and Nnaam.

ODM noted that the process is critical in ensuring only verified members participate in the by-elections.

“That Party membership verification is ongoing and members in the listed areas are advised to verify their Party membership details and status in preparation for the upcoming by-elections,” the statement added.
