ODM responds after court blocks expulsion of Jalang'o and other rebel MPs

ODM dismisses an order issued by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) court suspending the expulsion of Jalang'o and other rebel MPs

ODM dismisses an order issued by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) court suspending the expulsion of Jalang’o and other rebel MPs.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Tuesday challenged the tribunal’s ruling suspending the party’s decision to expel rebel MPs.

In a statement via Twitter on Tuesday, September 12, Sifuna faulted PPDT chairperson Desam Nungo over the ruling saying the orders against ODM will eventually be dropped.

He referenced past instances where rulings and orders given by the tribunal were ignored.

“Desma Nungo is the very same person at the PPDT who issued ex-parte orders stopping the removal of Dulo as the Senate Minority Whip a few months ago.

In a statement, the ODM Secretary general further insinuated that the PPDT lacked real powers to enforce its directives.

“In the end, the PPDT couldn’t force a relationship that had broken down to subsist. Dulo went. The latest orders against ODM will suffer the same fate in the fullness of time. Any person celebrating ex-parte orders at the PPDT is legally a moron,” Sifuna stated.

This comes after PPDT issued orders blocking the suspension of Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, Langata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o, and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda pending the hearing and determination of the matter.

The three MPs also obtained orders barring their removal from the ODM party members list and removal from parliamentary committees.

The trio was among the five rebel MPs that were expelled from the Raila Odinga-led party last week over allegiance to President William Ruto.

Others are; Caroli Omondi (Suba South), and Gideon Ochanda (Bondo).
