Parent was reported dead following a stampede in Githurai 45, Ruiru during issuance of bursary forms.
A fatal incident occurred in Githurai 45 on Monday during the distribution of bursary forms, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to several others due to a stampede.
The event was organized by the local MP, Simon King’ara.
According to reports, James Atanga, a father of two, was pronounced dead at Kenyatta University Teaching, Research, and Referral Hospital where he was taken for treatment by good Samaritans.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was pushed to the ground when thousands of applicants started fighting over who should be served first.

“The crowd was big… James (deceased) was number 783, they started pushing each other in the queues and unfortunately, he fell, and people ran over him. Three other women were also injured and rushed to a nearby hospital,” Caste Kawira narrated the ordeal.
The wife of the deceased, Pamela Munyangi, stated that they were seeking a bursary for their child in Form Four.
“It was around 6.00am. He received a call from a friend who asked him to go and collect a bursary form, when he got there, there were so many people who were disorderly, pushing each other and fighting for a space in the queue. My husband fell and succumbed from the stampede,” she said.
