Students beat up parents after storming their school demanding removal of a newly installed principal.
Students at Otok Mixed Secondary School in Karachuonyo constituency on Thursday caned and chased away some parents for allegedly blocking the new principal, Jackton Ogaga, from accessing his office.
The parents were demanding that the immediate former principal, Amos Hongo, be reinstated, and they did not want Ogaga to take over.
The incident escalated when students came out of class and began stoning the parents.
Some students beat up the parents, who were determined to forcefully remove the new principal.
They used wooden rods and stones to assault the parents whom they accused of causing chaos and interfering with their studies.
Witnesses said the parents were overwhelmed by the high number of students and fled into neighbouring villages.
Some students pursued the parents, and police were forced to intervene to avert more significant violence.
In shocking scenes, two parents who had hidden in the principal’s office were flushed out and caned by the learners.

Three people were arrested in connection with the incident, including a senior parents’ association official.
The suspects will be charged with inciting parents to forcefully remove a public officer appointed rightfully.
Speaking after the incident, Ogaga said students came from their classrooms when some parents started hurling insults.
During the fracas, the deputy principal got injured after being hit with a stone.
“Some angry students picked wooden rods and beat them. The parents were chased to about 2km from the school,” Ogaga said.
Students who spoke to journalists complained that some parents do not want the school to progress.
“They always want good teachers to get transferred but for us, we want to get taught and excel in academics,” a student said.
Rachuonyo North sub-county police commander Lydia Parteiyie said they have arrested three parents.
“We’re interrogating the suspects to establish the reasons why they wanted to eject the principal,” Parteiye said.
