Parliament extends public participation on Gachagua impeachment

The Clerk of the National Assembly has extended the public participation of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment by one day
The Clerk of the National Assembly has extended the public participation of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment by one day.
In a statement dated Friday, October 4, Samuel Njoroge revealed that the nationwide exercise would continue until Saturday, October 5.
The clerk explained that the extension would give Kenyans enough time to air their views over the impeachment motion.
This was also in line with the orders that were issued by the Kerugoya Law Courts.
In the initial plan, the public participation exercise was to be done and completed on Friday, October 4 at 5 pm.
“Further to the public participation exercise which commenced on 2nd October 2024, and the collection of views across the Venues and Constituency/County Women Representative Offices on 4th October 2024, the 290 Constituency Offices and 47 County Women Representative Offices of all Members of the National Assembly, which are offices under the Parliamentary Service Commission, shall remain open on Saturday, 5th October 2024 from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm to facilitate further public participation on the Special Motion,” read the notice in part.

“Members of the public may submit their views relating to the Special Motion to the aforesaid respective Constituency/County Women Representative Offices for onward transmission to the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly.”
Further, the clerk also allayed fear over the emergence of fake submission forms in the impeachment motion.
According to the clerk, the forms either be coloured or black and white.
“A Public Views Template providing guidance on the form of submission to be received continued to be available on http://parliament.go.ke/index.php/impeachment-motion-public- participation-template-form and physically at each Constituency/County Office.”
“For the avoidance of doubt the Template may be filled and submitted in either colour or black and white for onward transmission to the Office of the Clerk,” read the notice in part.
