Police arrest four and recover gun stolen during Raila's burial
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended four suspects who allegedly stole a firearm from a police officer during the burial of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga last Sunday.
The four suspects allegedly stole the firearm from an officer who had escorted Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa during the burial.
The officers, based at the Kasagam police station, arrested the four on Saturday, October 25, after a tip-off from members of the public.
The DCI managed to recover the loaded firearm after raiding the suspects in their hideout in the Mbeme area in Kisumu East.
The suspects are currently under police custody at the police station, awaiting arraignment.
According to the officer, who is based at the GSU headquarters in Ruraka, the weapon was stolen at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) gate at around 4:30pm.
The officer said that an individual, who was among a group of youths that had surrounded the governor’s vehicle, snatched the gun as he was boarding the governor’s vehicle.
