Kenyan police on Monday blocked a press conference called to air allegations of human atrocities by UK troops in the country ahead King Charles III’s visit.
According to reports, police arrived at a Nairobi hotel where the conferences was to take place in a lorry and two smaller trucks and blocked access points to the venue before the meeting’s conveners could hold the press conference.
The police then proceeded to seek out the hotel’s management warning them against hosting the event.
The allegations in question relate to a period long after the end of colonial rule.
For years, Kenyans have accused British soldiers training in Laikipia of human rights violations.
Residents of central Kenya’s Lolldaiga area have accused a British army training unit based nearby of causing a 2021 wildfire that destroyed much of a nature reserve, leaving behind ordnance that injured locals, and being involved in the 2012 murder of Agnes Wanjiru who was last seen with British soldiers.

Wanjiru, who was 21 at the time of her death had last been seen alive with British troops at a hotel in Nanyuki in March 2012 before her mutilated body was found 3 months later near a British military camp.
Following the case, British authorities commenced investigations into the case, adding that it will support Kenyan authorities to investigate the matter.
However, British media outlets have reported that the soldier is living and walking scot-free in South England.
