IG Kanja has been summoned to explain why no action has been taken against those who dumped garbage at Kenya Power gates.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has summoned the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja over the failure to take action against Nairobi County officials who dumped garbage at the gates of Stima Plaza.

Speaking on Wednesday, February 26, Wetang’ula condemned the incident, describing it as lawless behavior that must not be tolerated.

“We shall not allow this country to be reduced to the Wild West behavior where you disagree with somebody, and you send out goons and hooligans to go and sort out your mess. That is not Kenya, and you must stop it,” he stated.

As a result, Wetangula directed Parliament to summon the IG to explain why no action has been taken against those responsible.

“So I direct you to summon the IG to find out why no other action has been taken against this publicized criminal behavior by the city government of Nairobi,” he added.

Earlier Wednesday, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja expressed that the dumping of waste outside the Stima Plaza gate was not intentional.

Addressing the media after a meeting with Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Sakaja detailed that the county government had intended to have the trucks parked outside the gate.

He acknowledged that one of the officials took advantage and poured the garbage outside the gate, adding that the matter would be handled internally.

“It was unfortunate that one of the trucks tipped garbage. That was not the intention and that is why in less than 30 minutes all that garbage was collected. That is not how Nairobi County operates and the action will be dealt with internally,” he said.
