A police officer is nursing injuries after residents beat him up in Tinderet, Nandi county for making noise while looking for his missing girlfriend.

According to reports, the officer, Sergeant Sammy Maritim, in charge of the Kaspigilai patrol base, went in search of his girlfriend, only identified as Akinyi on Thursday, June 6, at Kibingong center at 1.45 am when he was sadly attacked.

The police report revealed that Maritim was calling out for the lady, which the resident viewed as noise late in the night, thus attacking him.

“The incident was reported at Potopoto police station, that Officer Sergeant Sammy Maritim was causing a disturbance at the center, shouting the name of the lady repeatedly. The action irritated residents who descended on him with beatings,” the report read.

The missing girlfriend is said to have been living with the officer and had not returned home, which prompted the officer to search for her.

The police officer sustained injuries on the head from being hit by a blunt object by the residents.

Following reports to the police station, officers rushed to the scene to rescue the officer, who was found unconscious and bleeding.

“After reports reached the station, officers rushed to the scene, where Maritim was found unconscious and bleeding, from the injuries he sustained from the beating,” further read the report.

Police in Tinderet have begun investigations into the matter to ascertain the assault against Maritim.
