A police officer attached to Samburu police station is nursing severe injuries on the head and right hand after a mob attack by rowdy youths in Murang’a on Friday.
According to reports, the officer was part of the team that participated in the recruitment exercise of security guards at Kennol in Thika.
A contract manager at G4S who reported the incident informed the authorities that unknown armed men interdicted the cop marshals pelting stones at their vehicle.
“It happened that on reaching Shell Petrol Station, near the tunnel, they were suddenly attacked by about ten men who pelted them with stones,” read part of the police report.
The mob smashed the front windscreen and right side screen where the targeted police officer sat.
According to a police report, the culprits immediately fled the scene after the attack.
The officer was rushed to Bliss Medical Center in Thika for medical attention and later referred to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Two police officers sustained soft tissue injuries on their right and left leg following the altercation while three others escaped unhurt.

Investigations are underway and the police are yet to establish the cause of the attack.
Similarly, in May, two police officers were injured when they were attacked by an irate mob destroying property in the Kemera area in Nyamira County.
The angry mob had gathered at the house of a suspect, for alleged murder, and began destroying property and torching houses.
Police officers led by OCS Sengera Police Station-Manga David Kemboi rushed to the scene to quell the violence by the residents who were shouting and yelling.
Upon spotting the police officers, the mob started hurling stones at them, prompting the officers to launch tear gas. The crowd grew increasingly large and overpowered the officers, who resorted to shooting into the air to disperse the mob.
