Police officers on patrol ambush Al-Shabaab militants planting a bomb; Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on a Highway.
In the attack that happened on Tuesday, February 7, Kenya Police officers instantly killed one militant before he could blow up the Improvised Explosive Devices along the Sedahgose-Amuma road in Fafi, Garissa County.
On noticing the counter-terrorism offensive by the police officers, two of the deceased’s accomplices took off on foot, but one was so unfortunate.
The police officers gave a chase and arrested one of the miscreants before he could escape into the nearby thicket along the Sedahgose-Amuma road.
But despite a fierce barrage of fire from the Counter Terrorism Police, the third accomplice was able to flee.
The terrorists were employing one AK-47 and various items during their targeted operation in Garissa County, which was discovered by the police.
A technically complete improvised explosive device that was already on the ground at the time of the ambush was also found by the Counter Terrorism Police agents.
“An improvised explosive device is a bomb constructed and deployed in ways other than in conventional military action.
“It may be constructed of conventional military explosives, such as an artillery shell, attached to a detonating mechanism. IEDs are commonly used as roadside bombs or homemade bombs,” the US National Academies and the Department of Homeland Security explained.

Judging by its sheer size, the IED that was being planted along Sedahgose-Amuma road had the ability to kill many people in a motor vehicle.
Sedahgose-Amuma road is a common transport corridor that connects the two major towns in Garissa County.
The road is mainly used by local residents, Kenya Police Officers, and long-distance buses that often transport passengers from Garissa county to other parts of the country.
The distance from Garissa town to Birsa Munda, Sidhgora, where the terrorists were planting the Improvised Explosive Device is around 5,659 kilometres.
