Human rights activist Mwabili Mwagodi claims his life is in danger following his recent criticism of the government.

Speaking at Central Police Station in Mombasa, Mwabili, who was accompanied by his family members and human rights defenders, alleged that State agents are trailing him and other activists.

Mwabili, who was recently abducted in Tanzania and later found dumped in the Kinondo area of Kwale County, says authorities have denied him the opportunity to officially record a statement at Central Police Station over the ordeal.

Human rights groups in Mombasa now accuse the government of colluding with Tanzanian authorities in what they describe as a coordinated effort to silence dissenting voices.

“‘Be careful protect yourself, tujaribu tufike,’ kama ushauri niliyopewa na majasusi kutoka nchi jirani. Waliniambia niwe makini nifike mwaka 2027,” Mwagodi stated.

“There’s a clear intention to eliminate people like me. I don’t want people to go through what I did. Here I am, seeking justice in my country and have been denied a chance to write an OB. I have to depend on my lawyers for the next course of action.”

“This shows there’s a connection between Kenya and Tanzania security. It is something we suspected but now it’s clear that the human rights activists are arrested and subjected to torture. The things they can’t do here, they use the Tanzanian forces to do them,” Khelef Khalifa, Director Muhuri stated.
