Ndunyu Njeru Police Station in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, was on Thursday, June 26 evening, torched by angry residents after a police officer allegedly shot and killed a man.

The shooting incident happened after Ndunyu Njeru locals staged protests over rampant cattle theft in the area.

The protests were sparked by the arrest of three suspects believed to be behind the cattle rustling in the area.

The residents then stormed the police station to demand justice, and during the melee, an officer opened fire and fatally shot one of the protestors.

The shooting incident angered the locals, who then set up the Ndunyu Njeru Police Station on fire.

The incident comes after Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen ordered the police to shoot anyone trying to storm a police station.

CS Murkomen declares June 25 protests attempted coup

Speaking on Thursday after assessing the aftermath of the June 25 protests, the Interior CS said he had instructed officers to shoot anyone who attempts to invade a police station from now on.

“We have told the police to shoot anyone who comes near a police station,” Murkomen said.

The Ndunyu Njeru Police Station is the latest station to be torched after Dagoretti, Molo, and Ol Kalau.

CS Murkomen in a presser said 5 firearms were stolen from the Dagoretti Police post while 4 were burnt at Gachui Police Post during the June 25 protests.

“Five firearms were stolen in Dagoretti Police Post, Kiambu County, while four were burnt at Gachui Police Post by the very criminals who hid behind the pretence of a peaceful protest,” Murkomen stated.
