Kindiki vows to ruthlessly deal with the opposition adding that police will be deployed at midnight ahead of the Wednesday protests

Kindiki vows to ruthlessly deal with the opposition adding that police will be deployed at midnight ahead of the Wednesday protests.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has dared the Azimio coalition to hold anti-government demonstrations, saying they will be dealt with ruthlessly.

He claimed demonstrators have been committing crimes in the name of peaceful protests as he reassured Kenyans that such protests had no place.

“I hear they have again threatened that they would want to go out on a looting spree on Wednesday. We are ready for them. We will deploy from 1 am,” he said.

Speaking while addressing locals at the volatile Kiserian in Baringo South on Monday, Kindiki said no one will be allowed to hide under the guise of political rights and the freedom of the Constitution to cause mayhem.

“I want to make it very clear that those hiding behind politics to commit crime have a date with us and the law enforcers,” Kindiki said.

“We are not suffocating any freedom in this country… the constitution allows people to do politics, to disagree in terms of policies, there is nothing wrong with the Opposition doing rallies and meetings which are purely political, but we have a problem with violent riots when property is being destroyed, people being hurt, economy being shut down, public transport paralyzed.”

His statement comes after the Azimio coalition announced that they hold anti-government protest on Wednesday of this week.

Azimio leaders rejected the possibility of talks with the government, accusing the police of using excessive force in managing protests.

“Our peaceful demos will continue next Wednesday, and we will notify all OCSs in the country,” said former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria in a joint statement.
