Political bigwigs who have already lost their seats, majorly parliamentarians in this 2022 general election.

Provisional results of the 2022 General Election began streaming from polling stations across the country.

While the outcome of the presidential poll remains a priority, some of the candidates of the other elective seats have already bowed out.

Amos Kimunya 

The National Assembly Majority leader Amos Kimunya on Wednesday, August 10 issued a statement after losing the Kipipiri parliamentary contest to UDA candidate and Nyandarua Woman representative Wanjiku Muhia.

Kimunya, who once served as Finance Minister, noted that while the people’s choice defied his expectations, he would take a back seat from the political scene.

“The election was historic and will hopefully offer a moment of reflection. We appreciate that life is dynamic, shaped by constantly emerging and often surprising circumstances,” he stated. 

Outgoing Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong

Outgoing Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong on Wednesday, August 10, conceded defeat in his quest to become Teso South Member of Parliament.

In a statement, Ojaamong who was first elected governor in 2013, thanked the locals for their support during the campaigns.  

“The elections are over, but our principles will endure for generations. To my family, friends, team, and campaigners thank you for the unwavering support during my reign and campaign period,” read the statement in part. 

Nixon Korir 

Langata Member of Parliament Nixon Korir on Wednesday, August 10, conceded defeat after losing his re-election bid. 

Korir, who was contesting on a UDA ticket, told his constituents that he was grateful to the people of Lang’ata, who allowed him to serve them for 5 years.

He also congratulated ODM candidate Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o for being the projected winner. 

“I sincerely thank you for according me an opportunity to be your Member of Parliament for the last 5 years. It’s been a great opportunity that gave me an avenue to contribute to our nation-building and service to the people,” the former aide to Deputy President William Ruto stated.

Naomi Shaban

Four-time MP Naomi Shaban conceded her first ever election loss in the Taita Taveta constituency race in 20 years. 

She congratulated her opponent and Wiper Party candidate Bwire Okano for his victory.

Moses Kuria

Outgoing Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria declared that he had bowed out of elective politics. 

The Chama Cha Kazi party leader who was vying for Kiambu gubernatorial seat stated that he would revert to being an ordinary citizen.

“I enjoyed every minute of my 8 years in elective politics. Back to the private sector. Happily,” he stated.

Jeremiah Kioni

Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni has conceded defeat after failing to recapture the seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Kioni, who is also the Jubilee Party Secretary General took to his social media to congratulate George Gachagua of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party who maintained a commanding lead in provisional results Wednesday.

Kioni had served as Ndaragwa MP for 10 years.

“To the people of Ndaragwa, it has been an honor to serve you as your Member of Parliament. I accept the results with honor and contentment. Congratulations to Hon. George Gachagua on your election,” Kioni tweeted.

He thanked his campaign team for putting in a spirited fight to defend his seat.

“Much appreciation to my staff, the campaign team, and the entire community of Ndaragwa,” he added.
