Pope Francis final wishes on burial and word to be inscribed on tomb
The Vatican has revealed that Pope Francis requested to be buried at the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major.
According to the Vatican, Pope Francis wrote his last wishes on June 29, 2022, when he sensed that his death was nearing.
In the last testament, he explained that he chose the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major because he entrusted his ministry to Mary, the mother of Jesus.
“I wish my final earthly journey to end precisely in this ancient Marian sanctuary, where I would always stop to pray at the beginning and end of every Apostolic Journey, confidently entrusting my intentions to the Immaculate Mother, and giving thanks for her gentle and maternal care,” the Pope wrote.
Additionally, he instructed that his burial place be simple and without any decorations.
