President William Ruto is scheduled to leave the country for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake.
In a statement on Sunday, July 27, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said Ruto’s trip is aimed at affirming Kenya’s role in reshaping global food systems.
“At the summit, the President will deliver Kenya’s national statement, reaffirming the country’s commitment to transforming food systems to support sustainable development and enhance climate resilience,” the statement read.
Beyond addressing the summit, Ruto is expected to hold several strategic engagements, including high-level meetings with leaders and private sector players.
“He will also engage in a series of high-level thematic meetings with global leaders, development partners, and the private sector,” the statement added.
Ruto will also hold bilateral talks with key world leaders, notably Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf.

“On the sidelines of the Summit, President Ruto is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with several leaders, including H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; H.E. Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic; and H.E. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), among others,” the statement further read.
According to Mohamed, the engagements aim to boost Kenya’s global influence in areas such as food security, trade, infrastructure and climate diplomacy.
“These discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral ties, deepening regional integration, and enhancing cooperation in food security, trade, infrastructure, climate action, and multilateral diplomacy,” the statement concluded.
