Private schools calls for fairness in Form One selection, demannding the process be guided by performance of candidates in KCPE.
The government has been urged by the Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) to guarantee impartiality in Form One selection.
Solomon Munene, vice chairman of the association, stated that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results should be used as a guide for the selection process.
“The government should reward hard work and let all candidates join secondary schools of their choice as per their performance,” said Munene.
He added: “All candidates are Kenyan children and it is our belief that the Form One selection will be fair to all. Private schools are keenly watching.”
Munene asked that the Ministry of Education take into account selecting and placing students in private secondary schools in Form One.

“Private secondary schools struggle to get Form One students because they are excluded from the process of selection. This is unfair because private secondary schools have invested a lot in infrastructure and learning materials and yet their facilities are greatly underutilized,” Munene said.
According to him, supporting private schools in the spirit of public-private partnerships will also assist relieve pressure on public secondary schools. He called on the government and, in fact, all stakeholders to do so.
As with their classmates in public secondary schools, “we also want the government to take into consideration extending capitation to students in private secondary schools,” Munene said.
He claimed that help from the national govt will entice parents to enroll their children in private secondary schools, hence reducing the overcrowding in public secondary schools.
