IPOA (Independent Policing Oversight Authority) probes police failure to act after goons invaded Uhuru, Raila property on Monday

IPOA (Independent Policing Oversight Authority) probes police failure to act after goons invaded Uhuru, Raila property on Monday.

The Independent Police Oversight Authority announced on Monday that it is looking into Nairobi’s police department’s failure to secure private property.

The IPOA is also looking into the shootings that happened around the country, including those that occurred in other regions and left at least four people dead in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Migori.

According to Chairperson Anne Makori, they kept an eye on how the police handled maintaining public order during nationwide demonstrations organized by the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party.

The Public Order Act, Article 244 of the Constitution, and any other laws relating to public administration and the use of force were all recorded by the Authority and four cases were taken up for inquiry.

Investigations are being conducted into a number of issues, including Nairobi police failure to secure private property.

This is in reference to the attack on Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga’s properties in the Ruiru and Industrial Area.

More than 4,000 sheep and goats were taken during the attack on the farm in Ruiru, and part of it was later set on fire by goons.

On the farm, they also made an attempt to steal cows. There were no police present to disperse the invasion, which occurred during the daytime.

Some had come with lorries to ferry the sheep and goats stolen from the farm.

Another group attacked Raila’s gas cylinder plant with stones before running away. Police weren’t present.

“The Authority strongly calls upon the police to abide by the law in exercising their constitutional function of protection of life and property in line with the National Police Service Act, Section 24 (d),” said Makori.

On Tuesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary who had been missing from earlier meetings held between police commanders and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said there is a need to stop the chaos being witnessed.

“We must protect our Country from sliding into irretrievable anarchy,” he said in social media posts.

Insiders said he was not happy with the manner in which some things were handled in the Monday protests.

Other sources said police had been instructed to stand down from responding to the sites.

This is even after Raila had issued a statement to reveal there were plans for such chaos.

This left the invaders with the freedom to attack and loot property at the Northlands Farm.
