Police and education officials in Nyamira are investigating the alleged beating of a Grade Eight pupil at Bitundugusu Primary School, which led to swelling of his scrotum, subsequent surgery, and removal of his testicle.
The incident follows another in the county a week ago after a teacher commandeered Grade Four pupils to pin down a classmate so he could beat the boy, seriously injuring him.
The latest incident took place at Bitundugusu Primary School in Kitutu Masaba Constituency.
The grade 8 pupil on Wednesday, April 5, underwent surgery to remove one of his testicles after he was beaten up by his teachers and is still at Bosongo Hospital, a private health facility in Kisii County.
Doctors at the Bosongo Hospital explained that they had to surgically pull out the testicle after it sustained irreversible damage.
The teenager had developed a swelling on the testicle that caused him excruciating pain and rendered him immobile. Medics diagnosed him with testicular torsion.
“He was brought to us in a critical condition. We performed an emergency operation on him. He is still recovering, but is too weak to even walk,” the nurse stated.
The victim’s mother admitted to taking her son to the hospital a week after he first reported the incident.
“They told me that I should have brought him earlier. He has now lost his testicle. My son has been crying endlessly, telling me that he will not be able to sire children,” she said amid tears.
She first noticed something was amiss when her son was writhing in pain in the middle of the night on March 31. He intimated what happened.
“He got into an altercation with a classmate who reported him to the teacher. He told me he was pinned onto the desk by his classmates and that the teachers had hit him on his private parts,” the distraught mother remarked.

His elder brother claimed that when he went to the institution to demand answers, the headteacher asked them to first go to the hospital.
However, upon further inquiry into what really happened, the school head told them there was nothing they would do to them. The school deputy headteacher attempted to cover up for his colleagues.
At first, he claimed that the event did not happen but promised to investigate the matter. He then claimed that the boy had previously suffered from a genital condition.
Nyamira County Police Commander James Mitugo confirmed that the matter was under investigation.
