Raila and Ruto send representatives to inspect the ballot printing process
Raila and Ruto fly representatives to Greece to inspect the ballot printing process for the presidential category.
Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto have sent representatives to Greece to inspect the printing of presidential ballot papers.
Raila and Ruto representatives flew out of the country on Tuesday night, 19 of July.
According to Juliana Cherera, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioner, the organization gave each of the four presidential candidates the opportunity to nominate representatives to travel to Greece with the commissioners to observe the ballot printing procedure.
However, the other two presidential candidates George Wajackoya and David Waihiga Mwaure did not designate any to accompany IEBC representatives.
The representatives are anticipated at the Inform Lykos S.A. company, which was hired to print the ballots.
Odinga’s Azimio sent Ben Agina, a former journalist, and attorney Velma Maumo, while Kenya Kwanza withheld the identities of the two agents traveling with the IEBC officials.
Meanwhile, Raila Odinga’s chief agent Saitabao Ole Kanchory noted that Azimio representatives had been given assurance, that the ballot papers will be secure and the photos of the running mate had been printed with regards to the High Court ruling.
Following a successful plea by attorney Mugambi Imanyara, the court had earlier ruled that the images of the candidates’ deputy presidential and deputy gubernatorial running mates should be included on the voting ballots.
IEBC Vice-chair, Juliana Cherera claimed that the commission had complied with the order and gave the assurance that it would support the media during the election by providing important information.
The IEBC has given the party agents a checklist of the things they want them to keep an eye on, including security features on the ballots and the volume and shortfall of ballot printing within the business.
