Raila announces nationwide rallies over plans by Ruto’s government to oust four IEBC commissioners.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has announced that he will hold countrywide rallies to engage the public on the ouster of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Vice Chair Juliana Cholera.

On Sunday, November 27, Raila said that the protests would start in Kenya’s major cities before spreading to other towns.

Odinga, who initially called for widespread action, eventually resorted to seeking the advice of Kenyans before taking a final stand on the fate for Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit, and Francis Wanderi.

“We will have a meeting on Wednesday, November 30, at the Kamukunji grounds to ask them if they accept these commissioners to be sent home,” Odinga revealed.

The second and third rallies will be held in Mombasa and Nakuru respectively.

The four commissioners, in Raila’s view, are innocent, and he claims that President William Ruto is targeting them because they refused to comply with his demands.

He asserted that Ruto wants to get rid of the IEBC employees because they would make it difficult for him to win reelection in 2027.

“This dictatorship, which rigged elections to win power, is determined to expel commissioners who stood hard for the truth.

“IEBC is a referee; a player cannot appoint the referee. As a result, we won’t permit Kenya Kwisha to impose a commission since that is unacceptable, according to the former Premier.

Additionally, citing the growth in the price of essential commodities, Odinga criticized the President for doing nothing to reduce the cost of living in the country.

Instead, he accused Ruto of making life more difficult for Kenyans by eliminating some of the options the previous administration had provided for earning a living.

“People are suffering and some of the palliative measures which had been introduced by the previous government like Kazi Mtaani have also been stopped,” the Opposition chief stated.

Raila rebuked Ruto for failing to deliver the promises he made to Kenyans during the August 2022 campaign trail and shamed him for introducing interest to the Hustler fund.

The issue of the four commissioners led to a public exchange between the two leaders on social media with each accusing the other of trying to impose their way on the people of Kenya.
