Raila announces the return of mass protests on Saba Saba day

Mass protests against the government over the Finance Act 2023 to begin on Saba Saba day according to pronouncements by Raila Odinga

Mass protests against the government over the Finance Act 2023 to begin on Saba Saba day according to pronouncements by Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Saturday, July 1, at the “Piny Luo” Extravaganza in Homa Bay county, Raila prepared his supporters for yet another round of anti-government demonstrations.

While using his Dholuo language, Raila announced that July 7 would be the day the ball will be put in motion.

He hid behind figurative language to deliver his message to President William Ruto-led administration.

“My people thank you very much. You’ve done every good job you people of Asego for hosting a great event that has pleased the children of the lake. Are you ready? On 7th July you know? Are you okay with it? We want you to tell the monkey that the people have seen him so that the whole world knows that a thief’s days are how many. Thank you very much,” he said.

Raila’s announcement comes Azimio marshaled Kenyans to collect signatures to send the president and his administration home.

The drive, he said, would start on the very July 7, when his faction would hold its second meeting in reaction to the signing of the finance bill into law by the president.

“We the people shall convene on July 7 to unveil civil disobedience against the government. We the people shall embark on a mass signature collection to seek to remove from power leaders, including William Ruto and all leaders who supported the finance bill,” said Raila in Nairobi during a consultative meeting.

The opposition leaders convened on Tuesday, June 27, at Nairobi’s Kamukunji grounds which their supporters thronged in their numbers. Raila christened the lawmakers who voted in favour of the finance bill ‘traitors’ stating that he would lead the move to repeal the now finance law. “We must punish traitors and force a repeal of the Finance Act. We are willing and ready to do everything to roll back the dictatorship. Ruto and all those who think like him are going to learn the painful way not to mess with people. They are going to learn the hard way that Kenyans are fed up but not desperate,” he said.

“We are going to the trenches to fight for ourselves. We have no obligation to fight for a regime that has not that has no interest in our success. There is no other option left. We must fight, everywhere, we shall adopt the act of civil obedience to force this regime to recognize that we the people are supreme. Let’s embrace civil disobedience because if we do so, we shall deny Ruto the taxes he thinks he can extort from us through the finance Bill.”
