Raila dispels Ruto’s allies’ claim that he threatened Supreme Court Judges

Raila dispels Ruto’s allies’ claim that he threatened Supreme Court Judges by demanding that they declare him president-elect.

Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate for Azimio la Umoja, has denied allegations that he intimidated Supreme Court judges by demanding that they declare him as President-Elect.

The former prime minister stated in a speech on Thursday, August 25, that some of the country’s leaders misunderstood his message.

Raila explained that, in his appeal outlining how the presidential election was rigged, he just conveyed prayers to the Supreme Court.

Raila urged his followers to remain calm and exuded optimism that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) declaration of William Ruto as the winner would be overturned by the nation’s highest court.

“I did not threaten the courts. I informed the public on what are our prayers to the court,” Raila stated.

While speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, August 24, Raila maintained that he won the election, advising the Supreme Court not to call for a re-run if they find out he won the August 9 polls.

Raila’s comments attracted uproar from Ruto’s allies saying Raila’s utterances amounted to treason.

Garissa Township MP Adan Duale has blasted Azimio leader Raila Odinga for calling himself, president-elect.

“Kenyans in their numbers came out on 9th of August and pronounced themselves through the ballot that their president is non-other than William Ruto and his deputy is Rigathi Gachagua,” Duale stated.

“The government printer through the official gazette notice on 16th August confirmed the same. These other stories we are being told are laughable. Actually, anyone doing this is committing a serious offence against the constitution.”

Duale said that as Kenya Kwanza, they respect the constitution and they will respect the verdict of the supreme court urging their competitors to do the same.

“Kenyans have already moved on and all they want is to see is their elected leaders and government serving them and delivering on their pledges and manifestos,” said Duale.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court judges led by Chief Justice Martha Koome are expected to deliver the verdict on the presidential petition by Monday, September 5.
