Raila explains his participation at the COP27 in Egypt

Raila explains his participation at the COP27; 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Egypt.

The African Union (AU) High Representative for Infrastructure and Development Raila Odinga broke down his undertakings during the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Egypt.

On November 9, Raila told the media that he had attended many conferences at the COP that dealt with energy in Africa.

While applauding the efforts of world leaders to combat climate change, Raila insisted that additional urgent measures beyond the promissory notes issued during the meeting were required.

“I am participating in different forums discussing issues of energy transition in Africa. I think that there needs to be more commitment and bridge the gap between rhetoric and action.

“For instance, we have the Green Fund, unfortunately, the north has not been able to live up to their pledges in terms of funding for the project,” Odinga stated.

While he lauded the ‘Developing countries call for climate justice’ theme for COP 27, Raila felt that the discussion of the effects of climate change, set for 2024, would come a little too late.

The leader of the Azimio coalition party met with important figures, including Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe and Samia Suluhu of Tanzania.

Raila was accompanied by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ and secretariat communications director Dennis Onyango.

The former Prime Minister left the country on Monday, November 7, to attend the 12-day climate change conference, in which President William Ruto was in attendance.
