Raila meets Azimio MPs over nationwide demos

Raila meets Azimio la Umoja coalition MPs over his plans to hold nationwide demonstrations.

Raila Odinga together with Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka will be meeting Azimio legislators at Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka Centre in Nairobi on Tuesday morning to plot the way forward for the Opposition.

“The leadership of Azimio invites you to an important Parliamentary Group meeting to be held at SKM Centre in Karen, Nairobi at 11 am,” stated a letter by Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, who is National Assembly’s Minority Whip.

In the letter, Junet said it is “extremely important to attend the PG as crucial decisions will be made.”

“The Coalition looks forward to your attendance.”

Raila had earlier announced plans to hold a series of rallies in his political bases- Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, and Kakamega- in support of the four IEBC commissioners facing ouster.

Even as protests become imminent, President William Ruto on Monday dismissed Opposition plans to organize public meetings and demonstrations in favour of four besieged electoral commissioners.

“Street demonstrations, street fights should not be part of the script in any responsible opposition unless they want to be a dictatorial opposition which I don’t think is where they want to go,” Ruto remarked.

Ruto welcomed the criticism from the opposition but argued that it should not be at the expense of Kenyans.

“I do not think organizing demonstrations and telling Kenyans to do the things they want them to do is part of holding the government to account.

He said demos were not the way to push for accountability in government.
